The Flyers defensive core was left a little light after the news dropped last week that Matt Niskanen had decided to retire. Today, the Flyers addressed that hole by signing free agent defenseman Erik Gustafsson to a one year deal worth 3 million dollars. In the 2018-2019 season, Gustafsson put up a career year, scoring 60 points in 79 games on a pretty bad Chicago Blackhawks team. Gustafsson struggled last season, but the 28-year-old is looking to get back on track, and if he does should provide the Flyers with a very serviceable defenseman who can make their power play much better.
Welcome to Philly, @ErkanGustafsson!
We've signed the 28-year-old blueliner to a one-year contract worth an AAV of $3.0M. https://t.co/CivbrJGkDq

This is the type of low-risk high reward type of move I expected from the Flyers, and believe this contract will work out for both the player and the franchise. How do you feel Flyers fans? Let us know in the comment section below.
