The Leafs have managed to keep one of their promising young forwards on a very friendly contract for the next two years. Ilya Mikheyev has re-signed in Toronto on a two-year deal that will see him earn an average of $1.645 million a season. Mikheyev is a solid option for the third line and can play on that second line if need be.

Mikheyev, or “Soup” as they call him, will be looking to serve up a dish of success for the Leafs this season. The pressure continues to grow over time with expectations for this original six team who has gone 53 years without a cup. That is the longest current stretch in the NHL at the moment. All these signings Toronto has done this offseason have been some pretty sweet deals and this one is included. A big, skilled guy who can give a team a spark at the right moment seems like a pretty good job by Dubas.
