This move was all but done ever since the team announced they would not be retaining club legend Henrik Lundqvist. New York found confidence in the young Bulgarian stud last season, seeing the play-in round this season. It seems as though New York believe this is the guy who can take them to the next level, and they still managed to lock him up on a fairly team-friendly deal. This move still allows the Rangers to make some moves, as they still sit with ~$15.6 million in cap space.
Expect the Rangers to look next to supplementing star Artemi Panarin, and getting Georgiev the help he needs on defense in order to make the Rangers a Stanley Cup contender once again.
(Unrelated, but also props to Georgiev for the slutty setup)
